Google has released a ‘recommend’ feature for its +1 button worldwide.
When users hover over a website’s +1 button, they will now be presented with a list of other recommended sections from that particular domain. According to webpronews.com, which sections appear in this drop down menu will be based on how many +1s each part of a website has received.
It is hoped that web users will find it easier to search for the most popular section of a large website thanks to this feature.
The feature represents the latest of Google’s attempts to make search more social. It also gives web users another reason to use the +1 button and add it to their own website, which is important considering the effect that the button is rumoured to have on SEO.
Shortly after releasing a beta version of the feature last month, Google engineering manager Julie Farago predicted that it would be of benefit to both web users and website owners.
In a post on googleplusplatform.blogspot.co.uk, she explained: “Working on +1, we often hear people say they want to see more of what their friends recommend. Likewise, when we talk to site owners, they ask us to help them show more relevant content to their users.”
