Facebook has unveiled a new social plug-in for blogging tool WordPress, allowing bloggers to effectively increase their online presence through ’social sharing’.
Upon downloading the plug-in, WordPress users will be able post content on their Wordpress profiles as normal, while the program simultaneously publishes a link containing the entry to their Facebook timeline.
Mobile users in particular are likely to have experienced troubles in the past with copying individual links to their social media accounts. Now, with Facebook deeply focused on generating more revenue from hand-held devices, it’s no surprise to see the site attempting to cater for the growing number of smartphone and tablet bloggers.
According to pcadvisor.co.uk, another feature of the package allows bloggers to mention or tag some of their friends before the tool uploads their link to the site, while new ‘Like’, ‘Send’ and ‘Subscribe’ buttons will now pop-up under the Facebook posts.
Other tools, listed by news.cnet.com, include an expanded commenting feature, which also allows bloggers to climb search rankings through integrated SEO support – along with a ‘Recommendations Bar’, providing writers with content relevant to their interests.
Announcing the update on Tuesday June 13th, Facebook engineer Matt Kelly stated: “The plug-in was built by Facebook in collaboration with open source partners and makes it simple for anyone to make their WordPress sit more social – no coding required.”
The 1.0 version of ’Facebook for WordPress’ tool is now available to download from wordpress.org.
