SEO and the use of “Cheap” in keywords

"Cheap" is one of those words that none of us want to use in our keyword list but it is what people seem to search for.  Take Christmas as the seasonal example of this…
You may want to include something like "Affordable Christmas Gifts" or "Budget Christmas Gifts" in your keyword list at this time of the year, and avoid the use of the word "Cheap", which may be perceived by your company as being associated with low quality or tacky. However, from our experience people do tend to search for the word "Cheap" even when looking for quality products, particularly in the current economic climate.
Looking at the search Volume for "Affordable Christmas Gifts", you can see below that there is no recordable search volume for this.

Comparing "Budget Christmas Gifts" with "Cheap Christmas Gifts", you can see below, that the term "Budget Christmas Gifts" does not create as many searches as "Cheap Christmas Gifts".

So, don’t shy away from the term "Cheap"!  Remember when you draw a visitor to your site, even with a "Cheap" related keyword, you can show them the quality and reliability of your products through the copy and images on your site.
"Cheap" drives traffic, it doesn’t mean your products are low quality!
