I hope you all found my last glossary post helpful in someway and used the keyword term Pay Per Click in your midweek meet up with friends and impressed them with your knowledge of PPC ha! Believe me though you are only at the very start of what can only be described as a colossus glossary of must have words that will guide you to becoming a PPC Campaign expert.
For my next installment I have a term for you that is at the very epicenter of any Pay Per Click Campaign.
Today’s term is Keywords
A PPC campaign without Keywords is like Morcambe without wise it just doesn’t work!! Keywords are the words or phrases that you create within your campaigns Ad Groups that are used to target your Sponsored Link ads to potential customers. To improve performance of the campaign and sponsored link adverts and keep your CPC’s ( cost per click stay tuned for this term explanation) as low as possible, you will need to keep your list of keywords as highly targeted and relevant as humanly possible.
For instance if your company sells slate floor tiles, then your keywords within your Adwords campaign need to be related specifically to your product. It is no use to you to start off using keywords in this instance such as Tile or Tiles. After all what you have to remember here is that you pay each time someone clicks on your Ad, so these very generic terms will drive a lot of non targeted traffic ( people could be searching for roof tiles carpet tiles etc) and the numbers soon add up and start to cost you a fortune. Think of it this way you wouldn’t pay for a magazine ad featuring your Slate Floor Tiles with a picture of Carpet Tiles in it would you! The same works for Pay Per Click Keywords. Keep them targeted.
This also spills over to the amount of Keywords within your account. How many do I need? As we have no limits on the amount do I need to create 2000 Keywords? I hear you ask. The answer again is keep it Targeted and simple. If your list of words is only 10 long but very relevant then that is all you need. However if you need or there are hundreds of variations on your products then your list will be much longer. You decide but remember the key is relevance and keep them targeted!
